Discover the Best 2023 Forest River R-Pod Features and Floor Plans
Forest River is one of the largest RV brands on the market. They own several brands and partner with others to create unique vehicles. Their catalog includes travel trailers, toy haulers, pop-up campers, and motorhomes of all shapes and sizes. But the Forest River R-Pod stands out as one of their most compact and efficient products.
The R-Pod has been around for several years, and it has become popular among RVers. These travel trailers are fairly small and lightweight, so they can be towed by a variety of vehicles. The 2023 lineup provides plenty of options and unique features that are worth exploring.
Today, we’re going to do a deep dive into the Forest River R-Pod. We’ll cover the most recent floor plans, as well as the unique features that set these apart from other products. If you’re in the market for a new trailer, an R-Pod might be the perfect fit!
The Forest River R-Pod
Before we get into the specifics, let’s cover some basic information about these little campers. The R-Pod is a compact travel trailer that is designed for easy towing. Forest River describes it as having “the lowest tow weight in its class.”
The R-Pod is the bridge between full-size travel trailers and teardrop trailers. They contain most of the features of their larger counterparts, but they are smaller and have rounded designs. They range in length, measuring between 17-25 feet.
Several models come with at least one slideout, but there’s a lot of variation within this product line. Some have permanent beds, while others use converting dinettes, sofas, and bunks. In addition, every model except one comes with a bathroom, so you can enjoy all the comforts of home while you travel.
Floor plans for 2023
You can view each of the following floor plans in more detail if you visit the Forest River website. Additional models like the RP-189 and RP-195 are only available through local dealers.
RP-107
- Hitch weight: TBD
- Unladen vehicle weight: TBD
- Exterior length: TBD
- Slideouts: None
The RP-107 is the newest addition to the Forest River R-Pod family. It’s brand new, and not many details are currently available, but this seems to be one of the smallest travel trailers that Forest River has created!
The majority of the interior is occupied by a queen size bed, but the back wall contains large storage compartments. A fireplace and a pair of tables complete the space. Each unit is also equipped with an outdoor galley kitchen, which contains a refrigerator, sink, stove, and additional storage space.
RP-153
- Hitch weight: 350 lbs.
- Unladen vehicle weight: 3,421 lbs.
- Exterior length: 17 feet, 6 inches
- Slideouts: None
Next up, we’ve got this cozy little model. Although this one is on the smaller side, the RP-153 still has room for a dry bath, a kitchenette, and a dinette that converts into a Murphy bed. There’s also a long sofa that can double as an extra sleeping space if necessary.
The walls are lined with overhead storage space, and there’s also a pass-through storage compartment underneath the vehicle. This design is neat and simple. It may not have a lot of bells and whistles, but it’s a great travel companion!
RP-171
- Hitch weight: 380 lbs.
- Unladen vehicle weight: 2,937 lbs.
- Exterior length: 19 feet
- Slideouts: None
The RP-171 is a bit larger than the previous model, so it has space for a permanent bed. The rear of the vehicle contains a comfortable queen size bed with windows on either side. The center module is split with a wet bath along one wall and a kitchenette on the opposite side.
Finally, a booth-style dinette rounds out the space. It has a wedge-shaped table to best fit the space. A pass-through storage compartment is located at the rear of the vehicle (underneath the main bedroom).
RP-180
- Hitch weight: 359 lbs.
- Unladen vehicle weight: 3,447 lbs.
- Exterior length: 20 feet
- Slideouts: 1
This is the first Forest River R-Pod on the list that uses a slideout! This feature expands the floor plan and provides more room in the center of the vehicle. The front of this layout contains a queen size bed, while the center has a booth-style dinette and a kitchenette.
The kitchen amenities (including the refrigerator) sit inside the slideout. Finally, the rear of this floor plan is occupied by an L-shaped dry bath. Everything is custom-designed to fit the space. The RP-180 also features two exterior storage compartments (one at the front, one at the rear).
RP-190
- Hitch weight: 424 lbs.
- Unladen vehicle weight: 3,434 lbs.
- Exterior length: 20 feet, 4 inches
- Slideouts: 1
The RP-190 has a similar silhouette to the model above. Their slideouts are in the same location, and they have the same number of storage compartments. However, the interior layout is quite different!
For starters, the dry bath is now located next to the bedroom instead of at the rear. It faces across from the kitchenette, which occupies the slideout. A U-shaped dinette sits at the rear of the vehicle, and there’s also an entertainment center.
RP-192
- Hitch weight: 447 lbs.
- Unladen vehicle weight: 4,059 lbs.
- Exterior length: 22 feet, 2 inches
- Slideouts: None
Although the RP-192 is larger than the previous Forest River R-Pod models, it doesn’t use any slideouts. However, it still makes great use of the available space. The front of the vehicle contains a queen size Murphy bed, a pair of nightstands, and two wardrobes.
The kitchen and dinette take up the center of the layout, and a dry bath sits against the rear wall. It’s fairly small, but there’s room for a toilet, sink, shower, vanity, and wardrobe.
RP-193
- Hitch weight: 431 lbs.
- Unladen vehicle weight: 4,169 lbs.
- Exterior length: 22 feet, 11 inches
- Slideouts: 1
The RP-193 is the first bunkhouse model on the list. Although R-Pods are small, that doesn’t stop you from traveling with multiple people! A Murphy bed sits at the front of the layout, and a dinette occupies the adjacent slideout.
The rear of this floor plan is split between the bunk beds and the dry bath. A kitchenette rounds out the space, complete with a pantry and overhead storage space.
RP-196
- Hitch weight: 517 lbs.
- Unladen vehicle weight: 4,040 lbs.
- Exterior length: 22 feet, 2 inches
- Slideouts: 1
Even though the overall vehicle length is fairly small, the interior of the RP-196 feels quite spacious! The front bedroom contains a queen size bed with storage underneath. A pair of nightstands and wardrobes sit on either side.
A dry bath is located just outside the bedroom and it faces the slideout. This space contains a large sofa and pantry, so it’s the perfect place to stretch out with a snack. Finally, the kitchen stretches across the rear wall. The counter has a fun curved design to accommodate the sink.
RP-201
- Hitch weight: 538 lbs.
- Unladen vehicle weight: 5,003 lbs.
- Exterior length: 25 feet
- Slideouts: None
Now we’re getting into the largest Forest River R-Pod models. The RP-201 is 25 feet long, and it employs a nice separation of space. The main bedroom is located at the front, and a full-width bathroom separates it from the rest of the layout.
The back half of the floor plan has an L-shaped dinette, a kitchenette with the same curved design, and a large pantry and refrigerator. You can enjoy privacy in each of the different rooms.
RP-202
- Hitch weight: 506 lbs.
- Unladen vehicle weight: 4,868 lbs.
- Exterior length: 25 feet
- Slideouts: 1
The RP-202 might be the same length as the previous model, but their designs are fairly different. The arrangement of the front half is the same, but the back contains a large slideout. This holds a booth-style dinette and frees up space for an entertainment center and pantry.
In addition to the interior kitchen, this model also comes with an outdoor sink, griddle, and storage compartment.
RP-203
- Hitch weight: 725 lbs.
- Unladen vehicle weight: 5,169 lbs.
- Exterior length: 25 feet
- Slideouts: 1
Finally, we have the heaviest model on the list: the RP-203. Funny enough, it’s another bunkhouse model too! There’s a decent amount of walking room in this R-Pod, so it may be best for those who have children or pets. The front portion contains a Murphy bed and a pair of nightstands/wardrobes.
The slideout holds a booth-style dinette, and it faces across from the L-shaped kitchenette. A pantry and fridge complete this space. The rear portion is split between the bunk beds and a dry bath. If you’re looking for a Forest River R-Pod that’s perfect for families, this one is a great option!
