Here's what I like: – The display is crisp and easy to view. It can be set to self-dim in low-light conditions, reducing glare while driving at night. – 32 GB SD chip is included for recording. I verified a 128 GB SD card formats and works fine. – The camera initally charged in around 5 hours, and lasted 14 hours without the aid of the solar supplement. The subsequent charge only took 3.5 hours. – The 12VDC ligher plug has a USB charging port available to charge devices, or even charge the camera. – The magnetic mounting of the camera allows for numerous possibilities for monitoring. In addition to using it as a backing up aid, it can also record trailer wheels at speed to verify balancing or trueness, use it as a truck bed load monitor, or even monitor the interior of your travel trailer while being towed. The image can be flipped vertically which provides more flexibility on how to mount the camera. – The suction cup mount for the console is coated with an adhesive to add available suction. The grip of the mount didn't allow any movement while driving. None of the adhesive stayed on the windshield when it was removed. You'll want to keep the plastic that covered the suction cup when it's not in use, otherwise dirt and other grit will find its way onto the cup. – The suction cup mount also allows the display to be close to the edge of the dashboard, even on my truck. This can help minimize the blind spot it can create. – The magnetic camera mount holds tight and didn't allow the camera to shift during minor bumps. I would still need to test it over a bumpy, backcountry road – but I expect it to hold well. Some comments… – While the display is crisp, it's still a bit on the large side if mounted to the windshield. If it needs to live with an RV or Trucker's GPS, choices will need to be made in the arrangement of the devices. I also plan to try out a cupholder mount to help with the clutter. – Recording resolution is 1024 x 608 (NOT HD – 1080P or even 720P)…In the specs, this is what is claimed: “Effective pixels HD 1920*1080”. While the screen presentation is crisp, I doubt it is technically HD. The recordings use an MP4 container, which makes them pretty portable between devices. – No audio is recorded. – The only way I found to turn off the recording feature is to pop the chip in the console. It can remain in the slot, just not seated. – While the display is still connected to power, but turned OFF – if the camera is ON, the display is still receiving and recording. – Recordings can only be 1, 3 or 5 minutes in duration which creates a LOT of files. Each file is time-stamped and the DVR function can be set to record newest over oldest, but a 20 or 30 minute setting would be nice. – The camera ON/OFF button has no indication of whether or not the camera is ON if there is solar energy available. If available, the camera battery will still try to charge, flashing its indicators. Covering the solar cell with your hand will reveal whether or not the camera is ON. If there is a charge on the battery, and the camera is ON, then the state of charge will be indicated. If it is OFF, the lights will go out. This behavior isn't explained at all in the very succinct manual. – The remote worked sparingly, to mean not really at all. I was able to get the menu up, but I couldn't select a function before the screen timed out and the menu went away. – All of my anticipated camera mounting points are steel, so I didn't have to worry about what to do with aluminum, fiberglass or plastic. If you need, HaoKeo will send you a ferrous metal plate that you will need to fasten to wherever you would like to mount the camera. For me, it would be easier to fashion a mounting plate from scratch knowing where I would want to place it. If you're looking for the flexibility of a magnetic mount camera, I can still recommend this unit. The camera unit appears pretty rugged and the resulting video that is displayed is pretty crisp. I don't know why HaoKeo throws in the “HD” term here and there in the product description, because it's not. If you can live with that, then go for it.
