I purchased this backup camera, despite mixed reviews, because I liked the price. I figured if it was terrible quality I'd just return it.
I purchased it for my daughter's 2007 Chevy Trailblazer, which we were having a Kenwood Multimedia Receiver with a 6.95" monitor installed in. I purchased only the camera to connect it to the Kenwood for display.
This camera was easy to install, we used the backup light wire for the 12V power for the camera, rather than running a separate power wire (testing it for quality at the time of install) and it did at time of install and continues to work great and provides plenty of power to run the camera.
The RCA cable was not quite long enough to reach the all the way to center dash of the SUV. Anticipating this beforehand I had purchased a 6m RCA extension with detection wire and a female to female RCA coupler from Amazon at the same time as the camera purchase and that gave us plenty of length to make the run.
Further, this camera provides an excellent picture, both day and night. We have TWO other SUVs, a 2013 Ford and 2015 Chevy, with factory cameras and this camera provides a better picture than either of our vehicle's factory cameras . . . So, I rate the camera quality as EXCELLENT . . . again, I don't understand the bad reviews.
Anyhow, I'm about to purchase another one for a similar install into my son's SUV, again for connection to a in-dash multimedia receiver.
I give this license plate camera 5 stars and a thumbs-up . . . AFTER HAVING IT FOR A YEAR !!!

This camera is super nice. It looks fantastic, almost OEM. The attached wiring harness has a very very thin disconnect, allowing you to pass the wire through a very small rubber grommet (see attached picture). I did choose to drill through the paint with a step bit for the cleanest install, although the connector is so small you may be able to pass it through a panel gap if you so choose. There's a wire to snip if you want backup lines, and there's a switch to flip if you choose to reverse the image. There's also two red +12V wires, one at each end of the yellow RCA cord - so you have the option to tap into a power source either in the front or back of the car. I like that kind of thoughtfulness.
Lots of people complain about fuzzy image - that's absolutely user error. Many reverse lights are variable voltage. If you don't supply this camera with a clean 12V power source, you will not get a good picture. It's in your best interest to run a dedicated circuit for the rear view camera with a relay, using the reverse light as the signal. I used a time delay relay -
HELLA 996152131 12 Volt 5 Pin 0-900s Delay Off Time Control Unit
, which enabled me to have that OEM effect where the camera stays on for a few seconds after shifting out of reverse.
One suggestion - it needs a better way to "lock" the camera in position. There's a hinge that lets you adjust the vertical tilt of the camera, and a set screw to hold it in place once you find that ideal angle, however, the set screw isn't very strong. Considering the camera's proximity to my hatch handle, it's easy to bump it and move it out of position. Once you get used to the camera showing a certain angle, it can mess up your parking significantly if that angle is changed. I may drop some Loctite on the hinges in the future if this proves to be a problem.
Overall, the picture is great, installation was straight-forwards, and it seems like a well-made product.

Took a chance on this, the price seemed too good to believe. My local car audio place was selling a similar camera for $249. I thought, what the heck, if it's terrible, I'm out $30 bucks. This camera has exceeded my expectations by a far margin. I'm sure it's not "true" HD quality, but it's pretty close, and a lot better than many other backup cameras I have seen in cars. The picture is crystal clear during the day, and pretty good even at night (my license plate lights, reverse lights, and tail lights provide all the illumination one could need for the camera). I have an SUV, and the wire was plenty long enough to reach my radio unit. I live in a very rainy state, and when it does rain, the picture stays clear. Very rarely, the left side of the lens appears to fog up after a rain, but the fog disappeared very quickly after both incidences. My only concern, and this is a very minor one, is that the wire for the camera seems to get a little pinched between the metal bracket and my bumper. It didn't affect the operation, but I was concerned that it would lead to wire damage down the road. Seems like the bracket should be notched a bit. I just took some electrical tape and wrapped the wire really well, so it wasn't as pinched. I used this camera with two radio units: the Kenwood DDX23BT and the Pioneer AVH-X3800BHS. The picture was great on both units. Would definitely buy this again, if it died.

Great camera - update your product pictures to reflect what you are selling.

The camera is not as shown, another customer has already posted a picture of what it looks like now, there is no longer the long frame that houses the camera. Vendors needs to update their pics to reflect what they are selling.
The camera's image is excellent and the wiring design makes life a lot easier than other cams I've seen and used. Definately worth the money.

Bought to replace another camera which was damaged from water. This camera seems to be well made and easy to install. AUTO-VOX quickly sent me a replacement when I had issues with the mirror/normal switch on my first camera.
