DoHonest HD Digital Wireless Backup Camera System 5 inch TFT Monitor kit.
I have been using DoHonest wireless and wired cameras for about six months on my KZ 34ft 5th wheel trailer and Ram Truck. We use our 5th wheel trailer for family camping trips and travel 1-2 times a month. We are not full time RVer's however most of our trips are easily over 100 miles each way and include interstate, Hwy and rural road travel. Having a rear view camera when pulling a large trailer makes traveling more enjoyable.
This is my third DoHonest camera system. I now have three different styles of the DoHonest camera systems in use. The first is the wireless Dohonest FHD 1080P Digital Wireless Backup Camera and 7" DVR Monitor system with support for dual or quad screens. This camera works well, however it does have a slight video lag and can sometimes skips or freezes at higher Hwy speeds. I still think the camera works well and I still have it installed on my 5th wheel. It works perfectly with lower speeds and backing up the trailer. Night vision is also very good.
The second DoHonest camera is a hard wired version, DoHonest AHD 1080P Backup Camera System 7" TFT Monitor high speed observation kit. I installed this camera on the 5th wheel and since is not a wireless system it does not have any video lag. The performance is extremely good. Night vision is very good. This system however takes much longer to install, due to having to run the wiring to the back of the RV and in your vehicle if you want a permanent installation. When hooking up to your trailer, it does add an extra connection to hook up the camera.
I am now using the Digital Wireless version with 720P resolution in order to compare the performance. I will be comparing this camera's wireless ability to to both the wired and wireless DoHonest camera systems before installing it on my older truck. My older truck does not have a backup camera.
Installation:
Camera mounting and wiring:
The camera came well packaged and with all the components needed to install the the system. Installation is very easy and straight forward.
I removed the tail light on my 5th wheel and wired in the camera wires to the trailer running lights. When we travel and my truck is hooked up the the trailer, I just turn on the lights to power on the camera. (Tip: If you need to turn on your 5th wheel lights and your trailer has a 12v battery system, use a 15a fuse across the top two poles on the 7 way connector. This will back feed the 12v power to the trailer running lights.)
I mounted the wireless camera to my second from the top RV ladder rung and ran the power wires on the back side of the ladder hand rail with zip ties. This camera is much smaller and has metal mounting bracket. It is designed to be mounted to your license plate, bumper etc. This camera also has an antenna that is permanently mounted to the camera. It is about 12" long. I have temporarily mounted the camera with a ladder rung mount screw. The antenna I used a thin strip of duct tape and temporarily mounted the antenna to the back underside of the ladder step. My intention is to test this system performance with the trailer and then move it to my older truck.
Monitor mounting:
This monitor has two mounts, a dash mount and a windshield mount. I use the windshield mount. Just a note: This is not one of cheap suction cup mounts. This one has a ring of softer rubber that really seals and holds it against the windshield providing a solid mount. I have a GPS and the suction cup mount for it constantly falls off even when using soap... Just clean your windshield well and then mount the suction cup. For the monitor the mount has a magnetic plate allowing the monitor to be easily removed and leave the suction cup base to stay installed. The monitors on the two other camera systems I have use seven inch monitors. Using a seven monitor can take up a significant amount of space and might block some of the windshield. This system uses a 5' monitor and provides a nice size view.
Wiring the monitor:
The kit includes two ways to wire the monitor, with a 12v power port mount with a nice on / off switch and also a hard wire cable. I used the power port mount which makes this easy to remove the monitor to store it. I also wanted to point out the power port plug also has a USB type A port allowing for charging your phone or accessory.
Smart Cable:
This system comes with a smart cable switch allowing the camera to be paired, turn backup guidelines on and off, adjustment of backup guideline (up, down, inclination and width).
Using the camera system:
After installing this system on the 5th wheel at the RV storage facility. I did a signal distance test and drove several hundred feet away and still had a clear signal, this was with the 5th wheel under a metal awning. Driving with the camera and monitor is nice and worked well. I had a nice clear picture while driving. Backing up this system works really well. I was able to see where I was backing into very easily.
I have not had a chance to test this system while driving at night or backing up at night. I will be updating this review with pictures a video and more information on its performance as I use it over the next few weeks.

I installed this system on a car that sits low and has limited visibility, to aid in parking. This is a high-quality, wireless back-up camera system which is easy to install, and provides excellent color accuracy, as well as daylight/low-light/night images. Each component is well-constructed and functions together well as a complete system. The camera-to-video monitor link is wireless, and in my specific installation, connect time averages approximately 6 seconds. When powered on, a graphic appears on the monitor, followed by the image from the camera. Initial pairing of the camera and video monitor is straightforward, relatively quick and is controlled by a one-time Settings option on the video monitor menu. Subsequent pairings are automatic. The 4.6-inch video monitor produces a clear image and provides buttons for various image-related settings, e.g., brightness, contrast, color saturation, etc.
Shipped with the system is a license-plate mount camera (different than the one shown in the product description on Amazon) with infrared LEDs for night vision, a 5-inch video monitor, a transmitter/sending unit, wiring harnesses, a cigarette lighter power adapter/lighted switch, mounting hardware, electrical connectors and printed instructions.
The wiring harnesses and connectors, along with the included hardware, allow for virtually any mounting configuration desirable. In my installation, I used the provided suction-cup apparatus to attach the video monitor to the windshield. It’s highly adjustable and requires only a one-time ‘press-and-forget’ mounting.
Installation is simpler and less time-consuming than previous wired models, in that there is no wire required to connect the camera and monitor. This saves the time and effort required to route a wire through the car to connect the two components. In my installation, I chose to utilize an On/Off switch on the console, so I routed a fused power cord extension from the camera, transmitter and monitor to the car’s electrical bus, via the switch on the console. This offers the advantage of being able to turn the system on or off at will, eliminating the need to have the car in reverse. However, this is NOT a requirement of the system’s design, but rather, my own personal preference.
As with other back-up camera installations, I utilized security screws to attach the camera to discourage tampering or theft.
The installation/instructions manual requires some interpretation to make up for specific details lost in translation. The seller acknowledged that this needs to be addressed. I’ve worked with this company previously and found that they are very responsive and helpful with questions about functionality and technical issues. In my experience, it rates as one of the best for this type of product.
Being a wireless system, the advantage is a simpler, less time-consuming installation. The trade-off, in this case, is camera-to-monitor connect time (~6 seconds). While this may seem like a long time to wait, especially if you choose to wire the system to the car’s reverse lights, knowing the delay time in advance and out of repetitive use, the wait is anticipated and becomes a non-issue. If, like me, you choose to hardwire the system directly to the car’s electrical bus (bypassing the reverse lights), the system will power up as soon as the ignition switch is turned on and will be operational by the time you’re ready to roll. For my application, the connect time is not an issue.
It should be noted here that, in the meantime, the seller is introducing an updated version which will eliminate the separate transmitter component, and significantly reduce the camera to monitor connect time. I’m currently in the process of bench-testing it and will provide a review of it shortly.
As I’ve only had the system installed for a short period of time, I can’t provide a rating for reliability or longevity. For the purpose of this review, however, I’ve assumed a high degree of reliability that is characteristic of the seller’s other products.
If there is one function I could add to the system, it would be the addition of proximity sensors.

I bought this camera for my Ford Mondeo sedan, the picture is clear as day, does not loose signal, and it stays strong! It is easy to install and even provides you with everything you need to test-run it and fully install it. Fantastic! The box comes with a useful choice of connector options and even more helpful, a way to very simply test things working directly in the vehicle using the cigarette-lighter socket. Customer service is excellent.

I received it last Saturday and had it installed and working in less than an hour. The picture quality is good and the system will support a second camera. I am using it on my boat trailer to view the back of my boat when backing into tight spaces. The camera consumes very little power so I have been able to wire it into my boat's house bank instead of using the trailer wiring, since the trailer is regularly submerged. Willy from DoHonest has been very helpful with getting the right unit and working on getting a compatible second camera.
