This Former KOA Campground Is Elevating The RV Experience

Nestled in the scenic backdrop of California’s Sierra Foothills, Placerville RV Resort & Campground in Shingle Springs, California, is no stranger to the RV community. With a rich history and a recent transition from KOA to independence, this iconic destination is setting the stage for an even brighter future.

Established in 1992

The story of Placerville began with John Simoneau’s dream. An avid KOA camper, John envisioned a family-run business that would not only offer top-notch amenities but also serve as a valuable asset to the local community.

After overcoming numerous challenges and securing the necessary permits, the Placerville KOA Kampground officially opened its doors in 1992. For nearly 30 years, it stood as a testament to John’s vision, catering to locals, tourists, and families alike.

From Placerville KOA Kampground to Placerville RV Resort & Campground

Fast forward to 2021, and the campground embarked on a new journey. After a remarkable five-year streak of winning KOA’s highest accolades in “Guest Service and Satisfaction,” the decision was made to transition to independence.

With the backing of Boa Vida RV Parks and Resorts, the park was rebranded as Placerville RV Resort & Campground. Now, funds that were previously allocated for franchise fees are being channeled towards renovations. Additionally, there’s a renewed focus on enhancing family activities. The goal? To create lasting memories for every guest.

Family at its core

The Simoneau legacy is interwoven into the fabric of the resort. John’s son, Jay, continues to serve as the General Manager, ensuring that the family’s ethos remains at the forefront. Visitors will also find John’s daughter, Dawn, managing various aspects of the resort, with younger generations lending a helping hand. It’s this family touch that makes a stay at Placerville truly special.
