Grice, Schumacher Take No. 5 vs #RV College of Charleston

NEW ORLEANS – Three flights needed a third set in the University of New Orleans’ (3-7) 4-1 loss to #RV College of Charleston (6-3) Wednesday afternoon at the Privateer Beach Courts. Kaitlyn Grice and Jordan Schumacher rallied from a 1-0 deficit to take No. 5 13-21, 21-16, 15-9.
The duo gave New Orleans a 1-0 lead in the match, but the Cougars took a 2-1 lead after taking No. 4 21-16, 21-14 and No. 3 in a close one 21-16, 24-22. All eyes were on the top two flights with Cara Sander and Victoria Corcoran took a lead, winning the first set No. 2 21-14. CofC ultimately took the set to clinch the match with a 15-12 win.
At the top contest, Veronica Corcoran and Rachel Kuhn rallied from a 21-19 loss in set one to tie with a 21-19 W at No. 1. Devon Rachel and McKala Rhodes won the top flight in three sets 15-9.
UNO heads to Baton Rouge for the Tiger Beach Challenge Saturday-Sunday. Round two versus the Cougars is up first Saturday at 8 a.m. followed by a bout with nationally-ranked LSU at 4 p.m. The Privateers are scheduled play Stetson and Spring Hill (rematch) in the two-day tournament.
